Sticky Sesame Chicken

Writer: HappyLuckyFoodHappyLuckyFood

Sometimes you crave something that is not only crispy but also sticky and sweet. This phenomenal Sesame Chicken recipe ticks all the boxes and will not disappoint This is a simple and delicious dish which is way better than your local takeaway. If you want extra sauce (which I always recommend) rather than just coating the chicken, double the sauce recipe. Serve with rice to complete this outrageously good meal.

Ingredients

  • Chicken breast (400-600g)

  • Cornflour (3 Tbsp)

  • Flour (½ Cup)

  • Black Pepper (½ tsp)

  • Salt (½ tsp)

  • Eggs (2, lightly beaten)

  • Paprika (2 tsp)

  • Oil (For frying)

  • Coriander (Handful for garnishing)

  • Onion (1 diced)

  • Spring Onions (3, sliced thinly)

  • Optional: White Sesame Seeds (For garnishing)

Sauce

  • Sesame Oil (1 Tbsp)

  • Garlic (2 cloves, peeled and diced)

  • Rice vinegar (1 Tbsp)

  • Honey (2 Tbsp)

  • Sweet Chilli sauce (2 Tbsp)

  • Tomato sauce (3 Tbsp)

  • Brown Sugar (2 Tbsp)

  • Soy Sauce (4 Tbsp)

Method

  1. Slice chicken into bite sized pieces.

  2. Place eggs into a bowl and lightly whisk.

  3. In another bowl place cornflour.

  4. Place flour, salt, pepper and paprika into a bowl and mix together.

  5. Crumb chicken in cornflour, then egg and finish in the flour mix. Set aside.

  6. Put a couple of Tablespoons of oil into a wok or large frypan and heat on high. Once pan is hot, place chicken in batches making sure to not overcrowd the pan. Once crispy, brown and cooked set aside on paper towels to drain any excess oil.

  7. Turn heat down to medium and cook the onions until brown. Combine all sauce ingredients into a bowl and mix.

  8. Once onions are cooked turn the heat back to high and put in the sauce mix. As the sauce begins to bubble start to stir the mixture for 1 minute to begin to thicken.

  9. Add chicken and spring onions back to the pan and mix in with the sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes until chicken is coated..

  10. Garnish with coriander and sesame seeds. Serve with rice. Enjoy
